Schengen area
The area covered by those countries participating in the Schengen Convention. These currently include 13 EU Member States (AT, BE, ES, DE, DK, FI, FR, GR, IT, LU, NL, PT, SE) as well as Iceland and Norway . Ireland and United Kingdom participate only in some aspects of the Schengen acquis and therefore belong only partially to the Schengen Area. The Acceding Countries are in the process of joining. Switzerland is currently negotiating to join.
