UNHCR
Pursuant to a decision of the General Assembly of the United Nations, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) was established as of 1 January 1951. According to the Statute of the Office the High Commissioner is called upon â inter alia â to provide international protection, under the auspices of the United Nations, to refugees falling within the competence of the Office.
